John W. Murphy creates an interesting spin on the typical biography in his book 20 Great Life Stories by employing a classic poetic form that was favored by writers like Shakespeare, Kipling and Poe.

His book presents the defining events in the lives of 20 extraordinary people, representing a wide range of professions. The stories are told in rhyme, which permits conciseness and freshness of phrase in a variety of metrical arrangements to assure an entertaining and rewarding reading experience.

Featured famous personalities include: Will Rogers, Amelia Mary Earhart, James Thurber, Marian Anderson, George Herman (Babe) Ruth, Maria Montessori, Orson Welles, Edith Newbold Jones Wharton, George Gershwin, Mary Baker Eddy, Cesar Chavez, Gertrude Lawrence, Ben Hogan, Martha Graham, Langston Hughes, Rachel Carson, John Singer Sargent, Betty Friedan, Clark Gable and Florence Nightingale.

Murphy was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Because his father was Mayor there for many years, the family got to meet many visiting celebrities, like Marian Anderson, Charles Laughton, Ann Rutherford, Orson Welles, Walter Pidgeon, and Judy Garland with Mickey Rooney. Learning more about these personalities began an interest in biography.

Murphy is a graduate of Fordham College in New York City. He served as teacher and principal in The Department of Defense Schools in Germany, Greece and Italy, helping to educate the children of U.S. Military Forces. He and his wife Rita live in California. Their children live in several places in the United States and Europe. His previous book is Aesop, Just in Rhyme.

20 Great Life Stories is available in softcover (ISBN 1-58939-516-6) from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. The book can also be ordered from most bookstores around the United States and the United Kingdom. More information about the book and author can be found at www.murphybooks.com.
