Katie’s father, A Chicago Police detective, was found shot while investigating a murder. Katie wants to know why, and she doesn't trust the Department to be honest with her, especially the lieutenant in charge of the case.
But Katie finds her own life spinning out of control. In the past year, she's been divorced, resigned from the Police Department under fire, and been hospitalized for alcoholism. Now scraping out a living as a private investigator "chasing cheating husbands with a camera," she's trying desperately to win back the trust of her family, friends, and former co-workers. However, Katie finds herself in over her head when her investigation turns up more bodies.
Truths discovered about her father leave her distraught and ready to walk away, but she knows she can't, for her family's sake. After someone tries to kill Katie, it's apparent she is next on the killer's "to-do" list.
JR Peters is a graduate of the Chicago Catholic School system, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. He has been a teacher, actor, director and playwright. Long Shadows is his first novel. Parents of two grown sons, Peters and his wife Maureen now live in Evanston IL, with two cats.
