Long Island's North Shore Gold Coast, more than any other section of the country, has captured the imagination of America. This, in part, is attributable to F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, which continues to fascinate the public in its portrayal of the life-style of the North Shore elite of the 1920s as perceived by Fitzgerald. In the two-volume work Long Island's Prominent North Shore Families: Their Estates and Their Country Homes, by Raymond E. and Judith A. Spinzia, over 1,500 estate owners are documented in a modified “Who’s Who” format of Long Island's prominent Gold Coast families.

The combined volumes provide extensive information on, and 577 photographs of, the estates as well as comprehensive biographical data about their owners.

The Spinzias are former Long Island residents, now living in Pennsylvania. Their first book, Long Island: A Guide to New York’s Suffolk and Nassau Counties, has been used as a textbook for teaching Long Island history. They have served as consultants for foreign and domestic television networks in the preparation of documentaries on Long Island history and biographies of the Tiffany and Vanderbilt families.

Long Island's Prominent North Shore Families: Their Estates and Their Country Homes volumes one (ISBN 1-58939-785-1) and two (ISBN 1-58939-786-x) are available in softcover from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. The books can also be ordered from most bookstores in the United States and the United Kingdom. A sample entry and additional information about the books can be found at the website, www.spinzialongislandestates.com.
